Ngala Daa-Waangkiny unified and amplified the voices of Rekindling Stories on Country participants with an innovative group exhibition and performance held during NAIDOC Week celebrations in Perth.
The State Theatre Centre of WA’s spaces were activated in a variety of ways, with an exhibition, screenings of performances, and image projections collectively acting as a vibrant celebration of Noongar language and culture.
Created with the Djinda Falcons Aboriginal football and leadership group, the impressive Boola Boola Birds installation showcased the group’s strong weaving skills and creative minds, while screenings of the Bilya Kep Waangkiny Northam poetry performance shared Noongar stories with a whole new audience.
To increase the footprint of the exhibition, poetry lines were also added to the walls of the Roe Street windows, poetry decals adorned Yagan Square and images of the woven Boola Boola Birds were projected onto the State Theatre building at night.
