Editing music video using free software
Taking place in Midland, Strange Times gave young people the opportunity to share their experiences and perspectives in these strange times, by creating their own music videos.
Young people who attend Midland’s Swan City Youth Service (SCYS), many of whom face barriers to accessing arts programs, had the opportunity to develop skills in filmmaking, editing and digital storytelling, and to learn about the branding, marketing and administration involved in being an artist.
The young people involved in this project had already been working with Rush Wepiha to write and record their own music tracks at SCYS. During the Strange Times project these young participants worked with Sydney-based filmmaker Johnny Yayo and local photographer/filmmaker Halim Mellick to plan, produce, film and edit high quality music video clips on their phones.
Participants also learned the ins and outs of navigating the music industry, from leading industry professionals.
