Beni Bjah at Kep Koorliny Poetry Readings

OVERVIEW

From 2018 to 2019, CAN worked with Noongar Elders and community to develop three immersive poetry programs that supported aspiring Noongar writers to express their experiences, ideas and stories in creative ways.

Banksia is Lit, Kep Koorliny and Ngala Daa-Waangkiny each had unique aims and outcomes, yet all three served as a new platform for Noongar artists to refine their artistic practice and share their talent with the community.

Poetry workshops led by writing professionals and arts facilitators supported participants to find their voice, develop their writing skills and articulate their personal experiences and memories of living on Noongar country. The participants created 42 poems, which were shared with the broader community through live readings, printed publications and poetry installations.
