Our Legacies Kalgoorlie project is led by Goldfields-based dynamic duo Monika Dvorak and Debbie Carmody. We feel super lucky to have Monika and Debbie working with us – not only do they each bring extensive experience working in the arts in the Goldfields and beyond, but they have a working relationship and friendship that extends back decades.

Legacies Project Producer Monika Dvorak is a passionate advocate for the development of arts and culture in the WA Goldfields. With over 30 years of experience managing art studios and galleries, she has supported numerous artists with professional development, project opportunities, publications, documentaries and art sales to the local and international market.  Monika is also a curator and project manager for public art projects, and Vice Chair of Artgold, the peak body for arts and culture within WA’s Goldfields region.

Working alongside Monika on Legacies is Creative Producer, Debbie Carmody, a Wudjari Nyungar woman and Traditional Owner for Upurli Upurli Nguratja (east of Kalgoorlie-Boulder), Anangu Spinifex and Kepa Kurl (Esperance). Debbie is a film scriptwriter, director and artist. Working in media since 1983, her films have been broadcast on ABC and SBS, and she will direct her first feature film in 2025. Debbie’s artworks have been exhibited throughout WA, and her paintings and public art can be found in major government collections.

Since the 1990s Debbie and Monika have worked together as colleagues and collaborators numerous times, with highlights including working at galleries such as Desert Art Gallery and Bush Blossom Gallery, and arts organisations such as Artgold, and on arts projects such as Tjuma Pulka’s Megafauna Project and the Lurrtjurni - Together  Exhibition at the Museum of the Goldfields. Their friendship extends back even further, all the way back to the 1970s when they met through their fathers.
