CAN says YES

CAN says YES

CAN’s Aboriginal Advisory Group, Board of Directors and Team believe it is critically important that we share with you our decision to publicly declare our support for the YES campaign for constitutional recognition and a First Nations Voice to parliament.

Social equity, respect and truth-telling is at the heart of all CAN’s work.

The YES campaign aligns with our purpose and values.
Our Ngalak Kaartadjin Wongi - First Peoples First Plan commits CAN to specific actions that enhance self determination for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people.

It is for these reasons, CAN says YES!

In October, Australians will be asked a simple question. Should we recognise First Nations people in our constitution? and, should we give them a say in matters that directly affect them and their communities?

We believe this should not be seen as a political issue. This is a decision for the Australian people to make. We respect that people have the right to form their own opinions, however we encourage you to make an informed decision. This is a pivotal moment in our history.

In 1967, Australia held a referendum to allow Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islanders to be counted in the census. This referendum is for them to be seen, and heard.

“We ask you to look past the fear-mongering and look for the truth.”
- Thomas Mayo, Co- Author of the Voice to Parliament Handbook.

Be informed.
