We’re pleased to report that Now Sounds Port Hedland has received an $80,000 grant from the Department of Local Government, Sport and Cultural Industries.
Now Sounds is an ambitious and unique intercultural street dance, music, spoken word and video project that brings together youth from First Nations and intercultural communities in Port Hedland.
Participants will learn how to write hip-hop beats, rap and dance along with gaining skills in photography and videography.
Now Sounds also received $10,000 in support from the recent Arts Impact Awards.
CAN Team
(L to R) Jimin Pham, Shenali Perera, Scotty Griffiths
We are so proud of our pitch team, CAN’s Community Development Manager Shenali and Now Sounds Lead Artist Scotty Griffiths (aka Optamus). They did an incredible job presenting the project to a room full of judges.
While we didn’t receive one of the main prizes, we are very grateful for the support we have received and we send our warmest congratulations to all the other finalists, including the overall winners Freeze Frame Opera and Revivification, who each took home $100,000.
Thank you Arts Impact… your collective giving program supports ambitious and unique arts projects here in Western Australia.
