Over a whirlwind 2 weeks, 10 taster workshops across 5 locations saw over 100 women* experience CHORUS, a large scale dance project that calls to end violence against women. Participants were given the no-obligation opportunity to attend workshops and meet the skilled and passionate team of Artists behind the project.
Workshops were run by CHORUS choreographer Annette Carmichael and her team of supporting dance artists, Rachael Colmer, Bernadette Lewis, Isha Sharvani, Sonya Stephen and Yola Bakker, who led participants through warmup and movement exercises.
The most powerful aspect of the experience was seeing Annette in action. A truly incredible community artist, Annette has a unique way of empowering each and every participant while inviting them on the CHORUS journey. A highlight was watching how she choreographs the ‘Gestural Opera’, a dance that is created using the gestures of women who share memories of fun, love and adventure with the group.
Filled with enthusiasm, curiosity and so much joy, each workshop was a true microcosm of the incredible community of women* in Perth, who attended the workshops in Canning, Mirrabooka, Kwinana, Gosnells and Perth.
Registrations to participate in CHORUS 2022 are now open for each location. We welcome all women* aged 14 years and over. You do not need to have attended a taster workshop to join CHORUS and no past experience with dance is required. The dance is made with you and to suit your body and capability.
