How will you be celebrating NAIDOC 2023?
The 2023 National NAIDOC Week theme is For Our Elders.
“Across every generation, our Elders have played, and continue to play, an important role and hold a prominent place in our communities and families.
They are cultural knowledge holders, trailblazers, nurturers, advocates, teachers, survivors, leaders, hard workers and our loved ones.”
- National NAIDOC Week Committee
Here at CAN, we are delighted to support this year's theme and share CAN’s resources with everyone.
If you’re looking for meaningful, community-led content, we have listed here some options for your organisation.
Fees presented are an estimation to cover coordination, production and a licence fee to Elders. Contact us directly to organise a quote for your organisation.
Ngaluk Waangkiny Documentary
Facilitate a screening of the award-winning short film Ngaluk Waangkiny meaning ‘Us Talking’ in Noongar at your office or with your community.
Ngaluk Waangkiny follows the courageous journeys of this group of Aboriginal Elders living on Whadjuk Noongar boodja as they fight for respect, recognition and acknowledgement from the City of Perth.
Once banned from the city streets, these Elders now have a seat at the Council table and are making decisions that are quite literally changing the face of Boorloo - Perth.
Co-written and directed by award-winning filmmaker Poppy van Oorde-Grainger and acclaimed Noongar artist Ian Wilkes, this short film is rich with archival vision, personal histories and moments of profound change.

Follow the journey of ten Elders living in Boorloo/Perth as they share their experiences of growing up with apartheid like laws. Their stories are full of strength, grace, ingenuity and humour as they share what it’s like surviving treatment as an interloper on their own land.
The series is hosted by acclaimed Noongar performer Phil Walleystack, whose warmth and humour makes these conversations shine.
Ngaluk Waangkiny - Stories of Resilience
Ngaluk Waangkiny | Stories of Resilience is a stunning photojournalism style book containing story vignettes from the Elders and serves to complement the podcasts and documentary. Your group or organisation’s could print an exclusive release of Ngaluk Waangkiny | Stories of Resilience for distribution with your community.
