The Kwinana edition of CAN’s Noongar Lullabies program represents a shift in focus for this award-winning program.
In Kwinana language facilitators and musicians Cyndy Moody and Kobi Arthur Morrison worked with Noongar playgroup Moorditj Kulungar. Whilst children have been involved in previous iterations of the Lullabies program, this time the program was centred on young children (four years and under), with activities specifically designed to engage them first in language, then in song.
The program culminated in the creation of a song for children, composed collaboratively by the lead artists, children and their carers and families. The artists and participants recorded the song, which is available on the CAN website. The song has also been published in a children's board book and an online version is available on the CAN website.
A celebration to launch the song was held as part of Moorditj Kulungar Playgroup's NAIDOC Week kids activities line-up, in July, and a celebration to launch the book was held at the playgroup in October.
