Delivered in partnership with Multicultural Arts Victoria, Common Ground returned in 2018 for a second round of collaborative, artist-led spoken word poetry workshops resulting in impactful public performances by emerging artists from diverse religious and cultural backgrounds.
Acclaimed performance poet Sukhjit Saul Khalsa, poet, producer and educator Zainab Syed, and 2017 Australian Slam Poetry Champion, Jesse Oliver teamed up to deliver a series of spoken word poetry workshops designed to support young people to harness the art of poetry to express their thoughts and experiences in a creative way.
After five weeks of workshops, a live showcase performance at The Blue Room Theatre in Northbridge enabled the young participants from CaLD backgrounds to share their talents with a supportive, engaged audience.
“It’s about sharing the stories that bring us together… not set us apart”
Sukhjit Saul Khalsa
