Lost in Space Music Video

Midwest

Get Lost in Space in WA’s Midwest with young people who call this Country home. Featuring the voices and stories of young artists, Lost in Space is a music video that references the vast land and sky of this region, as well as the experience of navigating the landscape of adolescence, at times daunting but also full of possibility.

Produced during Community Arts Network’s Now Sounds Midwest project, Lost in Space is the culmination of that project, which saw students from Geraldton’s Champion Bay Senior High School and Mullewa District High School take part in intensive music, visual arts and video workshops, mentored by Scott Griffiths (Optamus), Josh Eggington (Flewnt) and Shah Jackey.

Lost in Space features singer/songwriters Madi Middleton, Colin Scott, +* and Shalyn Harris; Mason McEwan and Jack McEwan on beatbox and didge; and Dash Bolton, Jasmine Armstrong, Ruby Hurst, Asanchia Wall, Chanel Mourish, Gary O’Brien, Isla-Rose Comeagain, Latrell Octoby, Leshai Papertalk, Ronald Ugle, Taelarni Mourish, Tavis Mourish and Talbin Irwin.

The creative team includes executive producer Scott Griffiths, project producer Elisha Rahimi, film director, videographer and editor Andrew McIvor, and animator Nathan Simich, with cover art by Shah Jackey.

This music video is just one remarkable element of this ambitious project. Over five artist residencies, young participants gained confidence in their own abilities, built pride in their cultural heritage, gained a sense of connection and belonging, recognised the value in their hometown and developed skills. Now Sounds Midwest is the third iteration of the Now Sounds program.

CAN partnered with Healthway, the Department of Social Services and the Department of Communities to deliver Now Sounds Midwest. The project was developed using the Social and Emotional Wellbeing Arts Framework created by The Kids Research Institute.
