WATCH
Alliwah means attention in Noongar.
This short audio-visual work tells the story of the role/responsibility of caring for Country, from the plants, to snakes, to kangaroos, to goannas, to birds, to humans.
Alliwah was created collaboratively by Whadjuk Noongar Elder, Decoding Advisory Group member and contributing artist Trevor Walley, photographer, contributing Noongar/Yamatji artist Robyn Jean Templeton and Whadjuk Noongar videographer Hugh Sando, as part of the 'Doontanboro Kura: Melville Waters Dreaming' exhibition.
"The First Nations people of this land were very aware of language, song, dance culture, how to live with the land, how to treat the land, the plants and the animals with respect. We respect the place because we are part of the place" – Trevor Walley.
