Teatro Latinx 2019

Teatro Latinx 2019
By Community Arts Network
30 November 2019

Latinx artists with skills in storytelling, performance, writing and public speaking worked alongside a group of Perth-based Latin American women who wanted to develop and share their stories with the community. Produced by Carolina Duca, Teatro Latinx encouraged participants to share their stories with the broader community in a performance in November 2019.

This show took place in the Beaufort Street Community Centre, where the workshops were also facilitated. Every audience member was welcomed by a storyteller and guided through the art installation and different activated spaces where the performances took place. Each storyteller chose their own corner in the centre and different mediums to tell their stories. The storytellers used puppets, projection, the smell of coffee, and audio recordings to enhance the audience’s senses.

Following the performance the stories and artworks of Teatro Latinx were compiled into the publication, Teatro Latinx: Uncovering our collective stories. The publication features the stories as written in spanish with the English translation sitting alongside.

In 2021 Teatro Latinx continued their collaboration with CAN producing the theatre show Man On!
