Now Sounds

Now Sounds Mobile Overview

Now Sounds is an intercultural dance, music, spoken word and video project that will bring together young people from First Nations and multicultural communities in the City of Stirling, the City of Canning and the remote town of Kununurra. Presented by CAN in collaboration with renowned artists Optamus (Scott Griffiths), Flewnt (Josh Eggington), Mubanga Culture (Mubanga) and Anesu.

The project involves a series of creative workshops facilitated at local schools and community centres in each of the three regions of the project. The workshops are a space to develop the young participants’ skills across a range of dynamic art forms, including beat-making, lyric-writing and rapping, dance, choreography, performance and music-video making, while collaboratively producing a song and music video. It will culminate in the public launch of the music video in November 2022.

Connecting together participants of Indigenous Australian, Pacific Islander, African, Asian, European and Latin American heritage, the project’s content is cross-cultural and multilingual; building intercultural friendships, and celebrating the experiences, ambitions and cultures of Western Australia’s diverse communities.

Now Sounds is supported by the Department of Local Government, Sport and Cultural Industries, The Australia Council for the Arts and City of Canning.
