This year saw the 4th annual presentation of CAN's Partnership Awards.
These awards are a public acknowledgement of organisations, businesses and individuals that have contributed significantly towards CAN's work of informing, educating, supporting and empowering rural/regional communities of Victoria affected by HIV/AIDS, Hepatitis C & other blood borne viruses and sexually transmitted infections.
It is CAN's view that community service is never about one person or a single organisation. The best results come from collaborative partnerships; partnerships between community-minded groups, organisations, businesses and individuals.
These values are clearly demonstrated by the recipients of this year's awards-
2009 Media Community Partner Award - JOY 94.9
Joy 94.9 has demonstrated true commitment to the GLBTIQ rural community by supporting and contributing to our efforts to raise awareness around issues regarding HIV hepatitis C and STIs. We greatly appreciate your ongoing interest as demonstrated over the year by interviewing our staff and providing broadcasting information on rural activities and events. Your continual efforts to inform our communities and your support for people living with or affected by HIV/AIDS and/or hepatitis C is greatly appreciated. These efforts can make such an incredible difference in the lives of those affected. We feel that Joy 94.9 should be congratulated and recognised for their community spirit.
2009 Health Community Partner Award - Central Victorian General Practice Network
CVGPN has demonstrated a true commitment to Central Victoria's communities through helping to maintain sexual health as a focus of General Practitioners during Sexual Health Awareness Week 2009 and their willingness to support and collaborate with CAN in the provision of STI Testing Tools in the Loddon Malle region which have now gone state-wide. We appreciate the support you have shown and contributions you have made to our community. We feel you should be recognised and congratulated for the excellent service you provide.
2009 Community Sector Partner Award - Victorian AIDS Council
VAC has demonstrated an ongoing commitment to Victoria's rural communities by supporting and contributing to our health promotion efforts as well as our endeavours to raise awareness of the relevant issues for people living with or affected by HIV. VACs support with resources and assistance with bringing peer education workshops to rural and regional areas of Victoria have been invaluable. It is our opinion that VAC should be congratulated and recognised for its support of Victoria's rural communities.
2009 Corporate Community Partner Award - Gilead Sciences Pty Ltd
Gilead demonstrated its commitment to Victoria's rural communities through supporting the production of the ‘Positively Rural' resource, developed and produced by CAN. Resources such as Positively Rural help inform and educate about the issues surrounding being HIV positive in rural and regional Victoria. We are seeing a significant rise in the numbers of enquiries from people living with HIV who are considering moving to country areas. Your support of Positively Rural has given us the opportunity to assist these people better than ever before.
2009 Life-time Member Award - Sue Pamplin and Margaret Taylor
Sue and Margaret have demonstrated a true commitment to Victoria's rural communities through years of providing support to CAN by volunteering their time and talents to the Board and also within the centre and at outside activities or events. They have also been very generous, giving regularly to help with meeting the ever increasing costs of service provision. We appreciate your continual support and contributions to our efforts to raise awareness and inform the public about the relevant issues for people affected by HIV, hepatitis C and STIs. We feel you should be congratulated and recognised for this.
2009 Volunteer Community Partner Award - Steve Taylor
Steve has demonstrated a true commitment to Victoria's rural communities through years of volunteering and supporting CAN and its work. We appreciate his continual support and contributions to our efforts to raise awareness and inform the public about the relevant issues for people affected.
