July 1, 2009 | Posted by A. Wright

CAN, in conjunction with the ALSO Foundation was recently awarded funding from the Department of Human Services to implement a state-wide program aimed at developing a Victorian gay, lesbian, bisexual, transgender (GLBT) sexual health promoting culture.

The objective of the program is to increase the sexual health promoting capacity of Victoria's GLBT community by engaging with new and emerging GLBT organisations and social networks, including sports clubs and cultural, community and political organisations, with the emphasis on revitalising a GLBT safe sex culture by making sexual health promotion part of GLBT people's everyday lives.

CAN is the lead agency for the rural/regional part of the program, "Take Care Out Back There". The three year program will see the implementation of a state-wide initiatives that will result in the development of health promotion strategies, activities and campaigns that support the needs of rural/regional community networks; raising awareness of transmission and prevention of HIV and other STIs. Other partners to the program include: Gay and Lesbian Health Victoria, People Living with HIV/AIDS and Victorian AIDS Council.

If you're a member of a rural/regional sporting club, social group or community event and would like to know more about the "Take Care Out Back There" program please contact us.
